Photo Letter: Sign is an eyesore 2018-12-11 - Greensburg Road entry to Columbia, KY - Photo by Doug Beard. Longtime Columbia resident and business owner Bea Beard had her son Dog send this formatted photo editorial comment to Columbia Magazine with this statement: "If I were thinking about moving to Columbia or locating a business here, I think I would turn around immediately if this was the sign that welcomed my arrival. Hopefully this can be removed soon. It really is an "eyesore" and a poor reflection of our city! - Bea Beard" There are many who agree with Bea. This sign has been on the agenda of the City Council for many months. A decision was made to remove it and replace it with a sign matching those at other entries to Columbia, but bad weather prevented it. As spring, then summer weather arrived, it was again brought up for removal, however, voices from the other side - opposing changing the sign - reached the Mayor and so it remains as is, deteriorating like a rusting piece of farm equipment in the field or an abandoned building left to Mother Nature to handle, reminding passersby that there was once life in this place. - LW Permalink | Comments?
