CJE Mike Stephens meets with Senator Mitch McConnell

2018-07-13 - Somerset, KY - Photo Photo from LaGene Sexton. By Senator McConnells Staff.
Adair County Judge Executive Mike Stephens, right, had the honor of a visit with United States Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in Somerset, KY, on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, while the senator was in the area. Judge Stephens said the visit fits in with a dream he has of completing the beltway around Columbia. - LaGene Stephens Sexton In a telephone interview, Judge Stephens said that he's working with other south central Kentucky leaders to fulfill a dream. "The Eastern Bypass is the most important infrastructure construction needed in Columbia, and I want to do all I can to see that it is part of the President's package. Senator McConnell is a key, if not the key, to getting it," he said, "just as he has been the key to securing so many of the good things which have happened here in most of the last four decades, and I appreciate that." With the Eastern Bypass the limited access roads around Columbia would complete a ring road or beltway around Columbia and would benefit all of South Central Kentucky, particularly the Lake Cumberland Counties of Russell, Pulaski, Wayne and Clinton. "It ought to have been built first," Judge Stephens said.
