Angie Freeman, expanded foods and nutrition program assistant at Taylor County Extension Office, shows CHS students how to make a 10-minute bean soup, as freshman Emily Kerns adds the beans. Students in Campbell's foods and nutrition class learned how to make a healthy and cost-effective bean soup. Freeman told students that the first step to making the soup is to cook the vegetables and then add the remaining ingredients. The soup included onions, garlic, tomatoes, lemon juice, chicken broth, kale and great northern beans. While the soup was cooking, Freeman played bingo and Price is Right games with the students, asking them to guess the prices of several food items and teaching them techniques to saving money when shopping for groceries. - Calen McKinney, Permalink | Comments?
