Just like at home for Adair Countians: Sign in Bloomfield 2017-11-27 - Netties Antiques, KY 55 in Downtown Bloomfield, Nelson Co. KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Saw this fascinating sign at the famed Nettie's Antiques store in Downtown Bloomfield and got homesick for Columbia, it shares so many similarities with the International sign on the courthouse lawn. Even saw "Egypt 87 miles," with the arrow in the wrong direction - mileage off, too, for the real "Egypt," and considered, briefly, a citizens arrest of a signpost. However, turns out, there's a bizarro Egypt in Jackson County - so, while not right, the sign is not wrong. The real Egypt, in the Green River Country of Adair County, is closer, and deserves it's own vane, but we'll not mention that to them - affront to Egyptologist aside. And the sign deserves redemption for spelling Luvul almost right - it puts on airs by throwing in an extra "A" just to put down those of us who mumble Kentuckyese properly, and pronounce Louisville with two syllables. And still, Bloomfield is worth a daytrip from the CM 7 County area anytime - it is one of the most delightful communities in America, irregardless - EW Permalink | Comments?
