Flowers of KY - Sweetpeas in Old Breeding, may be volunteer

Sweet peas, probably from plantings decades ago, are prolific in yards in the delightful, stopped-in-time Old Breeding Community along the Breeding Loop. Some may know about the plant's Mediterranean Heritage, it's importance in the work of Gregor Mendel, (See: Wikipedia: Sweet Pea) and get nostalgic for the good old days of the 1940's and 50's, when they were a mainstay in gardens everywhere. Everyone will delight in the happy faces they present today and the wonderful scent of the heirloom blossoms. And everyone should know these plants do not provide edible peas - in fact they are toxic. - EW/LW
