Tree art of Beech tree roots with moss and fern was discovered on a journey to find shade and cool on the hottest day of 2017 so far. When it's 95 degrees in blazing sun and humidity, the bliss that comes from wandering through a cool, shaded valley makes it easy to forget taking notes and just behold the countryside in south central Kentucky. Best we can remember, the scene is somewhere on the drive from Mt. Pleasant Road in Russell County, then on to Cabin Creek Road and to Turner Trail in Adair County. - LW
