Face Off -CHS students make progress on paper mache project

2017-01-29 - Campbellsville High School, 230 W Main, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Calen McKinney, Public Information Officer, Campbellsville Independent Schools (CIS).
CHS freshman Alli Wilson, at left, and art teacher Jo Ann Harris work on their 3D paper mache projects. Campbellsville High School students are making progress on their 3D paper mache objects. Students in Jo Ann Harris’s classes recently watched an episode of "Face Off," a reality television show that features a competition between special effects makeup artists. While watching the show, students learned about making special effects, but also about art careers. To put their new skills to the test, students discussed Alice in Wonderland, which they study in their literature classes. After choosing a character from Alice in Wonderland or a video game, students went to work making their own 3D sculptures. The first step of the process was covering balloons with paper mache. After their balloons dried, students continued to shape their sculptures. The final step is to paint them to look like their characters. The goal, Harris said, is for those who see the finished sculptures to not know they started out as balloons. The project will take about two weeks to complete. - Calen McKinney
