Sherry Norris, with her husband Mike Norris at her side, urged the Adair County Fiscal Court to reconsider Sunday afternoon sales of alcoholic beverages Adair County, at the Special Regular Meeting of the Court, Tuesday, November 1, 2016. The Norris are the owners of Breeding Country Mart and now have an NQ2 Malt Liquor package license and plan to add by the drink sales. Mrs. Norris said that since package sales have been added, the store's business has tripled. "The new business is not just from beer sales," she said. "It's increased in all the other things we offer." She was one of three speakers, including Adair County Deputy Alcoholic Beverage Administrator Shannon Sexton, and John Thomas, owner of Anderson's Pizzeria. No vote was taken to add Sunday sales, after it became apparent that only Magistrates Greg Caldwell (6), and Terry Hadley (7), and County Judge Executive Mike Stephens favored full Sunday sales. However, it was much closer when Second District Magistrate Daryl Flatt's idea of restaurant sales only - not package sales - would be the rule. On that vote, the the amendment to the ordinance failed on a tie vote, 4-4, with CJE Stephens, and Magistrates Flatt and Caldwell voting for the change, and Magistrates Billy Dean Coffey (5), Harold Burton (1), Sammy Baker (3), and Perry Reeder (4), voting against the change.
