Fall color: Sumac on Ewing Ridge Road, Casey County, KY

Along Ewing Ridge Road, which makes a delightful loop between KY 206 in Casey County just South of Creston to KY 206 still in Casey County, just north of Ellistown in Adair County, there's a trail of autumn delights through harvested corn fields, ready for harvest soybeans, beautiful homes, and miles of tree tunnels. Along the way, in fence rows fall color is beginning to show, like this brilliant red sumac, backlit by the evening sun. It's another reason never to go to Gatlinburg. There's no scenery there to match Ewing Ridge, and, for us, it was a discovery trip, the first time we were ever there. - EW
