Adair County CJE Mike Stephens and Cumberland County CJE John Phelps, right, conferred after the Tuesday, August 9, 2016, regular meeting of Adair County Fiscal Court. Judge Phelps spoke at the close of the meeting, telling the court that he was exploring a move to have Cumberland County's animal control pickups brought to the Green River Animal Shelter. Judge Phelps estimated the number of animals at approximately 20 per month. His interest, he said, was based on the reputation of GRAS as a clean, caring shelter. The talks are still in the preliminary phase, but the CJEs were optimistic that an arrangement favorable to both counties could be arranged, and approved by the Cumberland County and Adair County Fiscal Courts, and that animals might be brought to Columbia in the near future, as they are now from Metcalfe County and Green County.
