Wildflowers of Kentucky: Sweetpeas at Bridgeport 2016-06-11 - Bridgeport Road, Bridgeport/Eastview Metcalfe County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c). They line the bank along the cliff over Long Creek, a bit before its confluence with the East Fork of the Little Barren in Bridgeport. I call them wildflowers, but it's a volunteer crop escaped from some grand house on the high side of the road. They now have a special place for us, and we'll always remember Ali when we see these in late spring. Along the way from US 68 on Bridgeport Road/KY 544, we turned on the radio, heard the last of Billy Crystal's tribute to Ali, followed by Bryant Gumbel's eulogy, and were listening to President Clinton just a little later. Through the laughter with Billy Crystal, through the tears with Bryant Gumbel, we were never prouder to be human beings and felt so blessed that The Greatest loved the Commonwealth so much. President Clinton's address was complete by the time we reached Morris Chapel, where we left Bennett Ridge, and headed east on KY 768 in Adair County. If God and Allah are, in fact, not one and the same and are belligerents as some adherents would have you believe, what a wonderful truce they must have had to cooperate on to create such a perfect day. -- EW Permalink | Comments?
