CHS students learn how to make smoothies

2016-05-20 - Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Calen McKinney.
Campbellsville High School students recently learned about how to reduce the sugar content in their diets by making smoothies. Angie Freeman, expanded foods and nutrition program assistant at Taylor County Extension Office, spoke to Deanna Campbell's life essentials students about the sugar found in milk, juices, sodas and other drinks.

She told students how to read nutritional labels to find out how much sugar is in their drinks and food, and what foods have lower sugar content. To teach students how to make a healthy, low-sugar snack, Freeman taught students how to make smoothies.

One smoothie contained spinach, banana, pineapple and low fat yogurt. Another had mango, banana, low fat yogurt and apple juice.
