'Very capable treasurer' for over nine years, resigns 2016-05-11 - Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c). Adair County Judge Executive Michael Lee Stephens announced, with regret, the resignation of Barry Corbin, center above who has served as Adair County Treasurer for over nine years. Judge Stephens said, in announcing the resignation, that Mr. Corbin made the decision because he was just working too many jobs, that there was too much work for the treasurer, and called him, "Our very capable treasurer." Flanking Mr. Corbin, above, are Adair County Jailer Joey White, left, and Sheriff Harrison Moss, right. Mr. Corbin is employed full time at the Russell County Hospital in Russell Springs, KY. In his time, he's seen the job's responsibilities grow from being mostly about sign checks, to one needing full time attention. That is coming with the employment, last night, of Linda Quinn, who was hired on a pay rate of $16.50 per hour for the first six months, to go to $17/per hour thereafter, on a motion by Magistrate Daryl Flatt (District 2), with a second by Billy Dean Coffey (5), approved by a unanimous vote. CJE Mike Stephens clarified how a treasurer is named, explaining that the treasurer's post is a decision for the full court. He said that the county judge executive has the sole responsibility for appointing the Finance Officer, currently Gale Cowan, but the treasurer's post is determined by the court.
