Early morning in Downtown Columbia, KY 2016-04-18 - Historic Adair County Courthouse, 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com . The too-large-for the landscape trees were an issue at the last Fiscal Court meeting, Tue 12 Apr 2016, and replacements and/or eliminations may be considered. Adair County Judge Executive Michael Lee Stephens deferred to the public and local experts, announcing that the advice of tree experts Billy Joe Fudge and/or Kenny Pyles would be sought. Whatever is done, the small lawn is already a jewel. And, just a thought - what if the entire landscaping went native, except for the red-leafed tree. This year, the showiest dogwoods are those juxtaposed agains it. What if landscaping stones were rough-hewn Adair County limestone? What if only native ornamental trees were planted. What if all the flowers were native ones? Wild irises, Yellow wood poppies wild irises, ironweed and our new nominee for National Flower of Adair County, the Celandine or yellow woods poppy? And what if the grounds no longer needed to be mowed? Just my thought. - EW Permalink | Comments?
