Constables get office in the Historic Adair County Courthouse 2016-01-13 - Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Constables, from left, Joe Collins, Jason Rector, and Ed Wigal, were all smiles after receiving Adair County Fiscal Court approval last night, Tue 12 Jan 2016, for the constables to occupy the one-time circuit court clerk's office, most recently rented by Matt Baker, in the Historic Adair County Courthouse. Jason Rector, who is also president of the state constable's association made the group's main presentation, and on the recommendation of Adair County Judge Executive Mike Stephens, Rector's request was granted and the court approved, 6-2, with Daryl Flatt (2) and Billy Dean Coffey (5) dissenting and Magistrates Harold Burton (1), Sammy Baker (3), Perry Reeder (4), Greg Caldwell (6) Terry Hadley (7), and Judge Stephens affirming. Rector said the group will use the office to convene meetings, and that some state meetings of the constable's association and some training sessions will be in Columbia. There is also a vault which can be used by the constables. Judge Stephens said that providing the office will help maintain security for the building and said that it was his experience that buildings which are unoccupied deteriorate more rapidly.
