Adair Co. Smartest Dog of the Day: Bubba J, Squirrel Poodle

He's as handsome as any pampered Poodle anywhere, but Bubba J, is not vain in any way; having his picture taken is not his priority when he's on a mission, as he was above. Try as we could, his owner, Doug Janes, and I could not dissuade him from his job: Squirrel hunting. Doug said that it's not so widely known, but the dogs were once bred for hunting. It's in them. Bubba J trees squirrels in the neighborhood when he's out for walks, and trees a trophy mounted squirrel in the Janes home when instructed to do so. He's still a bachelor, but a very capable one at just five years old. He's registered, and Doug says that one day he may arrange for Bubba J to have a family. That would be a most desirable addition to our downtown neighborhood. - EW
