On a recent visit to Betty's Country Cooking, had a chance to test Betty's vegetable omelet. Didn't pay too close attention to all the ingredients, just say that the mushrooms for meat and onions were generous and as perfect as they can be. Not vegan, but halfway there; it's a dish even a 110% carnivore could enjoy, and with that aspect of the meal satisifed, the breakfast was "neutralized" - balanced a la Bruce Wilson protocol - with gravy and homemade biscuits and "reaching in" on tablemate's tenderloin biscuits - house rules are that tenderloin biscuits only come in pairs, but at $2.99 that's a bargain. The "myttery" (grandson-at-three-speak and now family code for "mystery")? Why, to paraphrase great Kentucky writer and Cane Valley native Chris Rowe, is the restaurant called Betty's OK Country Cooking when everything is so darned good? If you know, let us know, as apparently the name is changing fractionally. We think we know half the story of OK, but it was a surprise to learn on that recent visit just why "OK" has been for decades part of the name. A gradual re-badging appears in the works.
