Community Quilt project, Downtown Burkesville, KY

2015-08-27 - Corner Public Square & Upper River Street, Burkesville, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
It's strong art, and is highly visible on a drive around the Square in Burkesville. But it is really seen and really appreciated except when walking. This community quilt, is explained in the small plaque: The Community Quilt Mural Project, 2012 bought together 22 participants to paint their favorite quilt square. A book with the stories behind them can be seen at our local library. Sponsored by the Cumberland County Art Council & the Cumberland County Library." We took a turn around the Burkesville's Square to see how it compared in distance to the Square in Columbia - for walkers who measure such things - and it's almost identical to Columbia's. Five times around the Square and one has walked a mile. A great plus on Burkesville's Square: Lot's of art and lots of great visuals, which slow down photographers. Intersections seemed to be better marked than in Columbia, and there during the one lap we walked, there were no aggressive drivers. The photo was taken at 6:19pmCT, Wednesday, 26 Aug 2015.
