Barbee implement sale drew own crowd

2013-05-25 - S. High and Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. The huge estate auction now going on in Columbia has packed Downtown like few other sales in Adair County history. Passenger vehicles, both collectible and one Nissan Versa, sold this morning, followed by tractor and equipment items. Then personalty was sold with a break at 12pm noon for the sale of the beautiful old Alta Barbee Garnett House. In the afternoon, the personalty auction will resume. At this point, the antique farm equipment was being sold across High Street at the Patteson House, now owned by Chuck Rogers. The photo was taken from the vine shaded back porch of the Barbee Garnett House. Downtown is filled, but comfortable. Two restaurants are within walking distance of the sale and two food stands are open, one at the Farmer's Market on the Square, the other at the sale. Restrooms and seating are ample, as well. The weather is cooperating perfectly. The buyer of the house should be known shortly, though it's destiny, even then may not be known for some time.
