Sparrows came by often to check for fallen crumbs and to beg, if you will, for a handout. However, in all our years of eating there, not one ever upped the ante like this enterprising young entrepreneur who seemed to be offering a trade."

Donation to the Trabue Russell House

Leon Huff donated an item of historical significance to the Trabue Russell House this week as he celebrated his 87th birthday. He presented a hoe that he told Mayor Pam Hoots he felt was probably used at the time Daniel Trabue lived in the house, dating back to the 1800s. Blueberry crop harvesting in progress
 2022-06-09 - Metcalfe County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Seasonal jobs are happening in local blueberry fields just as in tobacco cutting days. The start of blueberry growing in Kentucky happened not far from this Breeding Road farm. The couple who started the dream came south from rugged Michigan winters (the blueberry capital of America). They said they were looking for land that would grow sage brush and cedar trees because the soil ph balance is what blueberries thrive in. This region, in the hills near the Adair - Metcalfe - Cumberland County lines, turned out to be just right.
