WWII propaganda dropped over US soldiers

2024-11-10 .
Among the cruelties of war in the 1940s was this propaganda dropped from planes over US soldiers on the ground in the Philippines, WWII. This document reads, "You're a long way from home, boys, in hostile territory. But don't worry, boys; your lives are not in immediate danger. Why? Because we'll not bother with you small fry. It's much simpler to isolate you by cutting your lifeline. So fire away, boys, to your hearts' content!"

Ginkgo Biloba beauty just getting started

2024-11-10 - Casey County, KY - Photo by Jackie Montgomery.
The brilliant Ginkgo Biloba tree, commonly called Ginkgo or Gingko, is also known as the Maidenhair tree. Wikipedia tells us, "Ginkgo trees are living fossils that have not changed for almost 200 million years. This tree grows almost anywhere, in both hot and cold zones, and it copes well in punishing conditions; from urban environments full of air pollution, to bad soil conditions, and even poor watering conditions, yet it still thrives." This one, reaching to the blue sky, is thriving at Tarter USA offices in Dunnville.

2024-11-09 - Cave City, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
This picture from times gone by hangs in a pizza restaurant in downtown Cave City, KY. It provides directions to all kinds of places and makes diners study it and ask each other where the sign was located in town at that time. The question of the day was - what is the building in the background?
