Kentucky Color: Bush Honeysuckle

2022-11-04 - Great Wooded South - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge.
Billy Joe writes, "Yes, it is an invasive, and not native to our country, but it is a visual treat. It is also an olfactory treat when blooming in the Spring. However, in spite of its sensual splendor I don't encourage planting it or allowing it to regenerate. After a period of years, it will create an impenetrable, consuming and spreading bramble that stifles any regeneration of most of our native species. I've heard it said that too much of a good thing is a bad thing, and this plant just might be a perfect example of the truth of that old saying!"

2022-11-04 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener.
I agree with Billy Joe Fudge who said recently he'd never seen more squirrel food gathering activity. I'm seeing more squirrels than I can remember and they are aggressively burying food for the coming winter.
