Kentucky Color: A Different Ring

2022-12-08 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge.
By Billy Joe Fudge
Rain has come our way this day,
From a strange abnormal way.
It surely has a different ring,
A slightly noticeable thing.
Gulf moisture is the norm,
Flowing North, nice and warm.
But as through this rain we go,
We feel the difference and know
That from the Pacific it flows.
Yes, across Mexico it blows
To bring us a cooler rain
Across hill, valley and plain.
It surely has a different ring,
A slightly noticeable thing.

Artist's scene on the Public Square

2022-12-08 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Artist Cora Renfro drew this classic scene of men sitting on the bench in front of the historic Adair County Courthouse. Buck Perkins is on the left but the man on the right is not known unless a reader might recognize him and send in his name. Cora's painting is hanging in the front office at Barger Insurance on the Square where Susan Loy gave us the details.

Update: The other gentleman in the painting has been identified as Carl Breeding.

Advent skit at Columbia United Methodist Church

2022-12-07 - Columbia, KY - Photo by George Kolbenschlag .
By George Kolbenschlag

The Advent skit was a special feature by the children and youth of CUMC on Sunday morning. It was a wonderful show with a fine message.

It involved a movie producer (played by Trey Stephens) telling a writer (Gabe Coleman) all the things he wanted in his production. He gave the writer a very complex list of all he wanted in the show, and the writer came back to him with one page--the Christmas story--which was then briefly acted out by the other children and youth of the church.

Children/youth director Jamie Salyers, Carol Weddle and Maggie Coleman rewrote what had been a three person script to include many other young people in the cast.

This week will surely catch up our need for rain. Even though temperatures are back into the mid-fifties range it still feels cold.
