Smiles from the Shriners Circus

On Friday, several students from ACPC and ACES were able to attend a field trip to the Shriners Circus in Louisville. Adair County Family Resource and Youth Services Center would like to say a big ‘THANK YOU’ to our local Shriners for inviting us and ensuring our students had an amazing time. (And a special thanks to Kevin Sommer for driving us to and from).

Update on the Mona Lisa plant

Veronica writes, "I sent a photo of this Mona Lisa plant in a while ago, and the flowers weren't in bloom yet. BUT NOW the Mona Lisa 'lipstick' plant is showing its namesake.

Very neat plant. I'm pleased with this spot of color and bright bloom! Happy Friday!"

Mike writes, "Concord School from long ago, this photo and caption identification of students published in one of the local papers sometime during the 1960s-1980s, perhaps the Adair County News or the Daily Statesman, of Waggener-Walker Newspapers. This clipping is part of the collection of the Adair Genealogy & History Research Center, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY."

The caption reads:
This School Group is the Concord School in Adair County, about five miles out of Columbia between Garlin on 206 and Craycraft near Road 80. It was taken about 65 years ago. From left (first row); J. ACHS 2023 Basketball Homecoming winners

The Adair County High School 2023 Basketball Homecoming Queen was Megan Helm, center, representing HOSA. She is the 18-year-old daughter of Mike and Tonia Helm, and was escorted by Conor Smith, the 17-year-old son of Dale and Cindy Smith.

First runner-up was the Student Ambassadors candidate Emylou Miller, the 18-year-old daughter of Paul and Lena Miller. She was escorted by Collin Pike, the 18-year-old son of John and Gina Pike.

Second runner-up was BETA/NHS representative Rachel Brown, the 18-year-old daughter of Randy and Janella Brown. She was escorted by Alex Loy, the 17-year-old son of Kasey and Holly Loy. For a list of all the candidates, click read more to access the story. Congratulations to all.

This was what happened to drivers caught on their way to work Thursday morning, January 26, 2023 when Mother Nature dropped a sudden sleet/snow storm on our area. Visibility and slick roads were serious problems until it quickly passed.
