ACHS Biology students tour water treatment facility

ACHS Biology classes made a visit to the Columbia Wastewater Treatment Facility this week as they learned about viruses in general, COVID-19 and how wastewater can be tested as an indicator of the viral spread. Joining the group were: our guest teacher Jeffrey Chalfant--Graduate Student STEM Education, University of KY; his direct supervisor, Sahar Alameh--Professor of STEM Education, University of KY; Donna McNeil--Research Engineer Associate; Lindell Ormsbee--Professor of Civil Engineering, University of KY; Brian Crump--Supervisor, Columbia Regional Office of the EPA; Steven Breeding--Chief Operator of Plant Operations, Columbia Facility; and Nick Tupman--Plant Operator and Collections, Columbia Facility (former graduate of ACHS).

Participating teachers were Rebecca Smith, Ashley Goodin and Denise Grant.

Burns awarded T.J. Regional Health Scholarship

Briley Burns, a Senior at Adair County High School, is one of three area seniors awarded $2,000 in scholarship funding from T.J. Regional Health. Burns will be attending Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, KY this fall.

Great conclusion for search for missing Green Co. man

Numerous first responders and volunteers assisted in the search for a Green Co. man who went missing on Tuesday evening. Mike Keltner says, "A multi-jurisdictional and local community response came to a great conclusion. As of 10pmCT on Wednesday, Mr. Vasquez was located in Green County and is now safe. Special Thanks to the Young and Coffey Family of Adair County, local volunteers who knew the male and were able to locate him with their efforts."

Strongest appeal made by law enforcement

The strongest appeals made to Fiscal Court, of all the county business items on the April agenda, came from law enforcement - Jailer Jamie Richards, at left, and Sheriff Josh Brockman, at right. Both men stated they need more help and can't keep employees without being able to raise compensation to be competitive with surrounding counties. County Treasurer Melinda Quinn is in the center. A county budget meeting is scheduled for Friday morning at 8:30amCT in the Courthouse Annex basement. It is open to the public.
