Travel: Paria Movie Set, 1 of 3
2023-04-27 - Near Kanab, Utah - Photo by Robert Ellis, Robert Ellis Woodworking. Robert writes, "This area is part of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. It was once a movie set location for various films with perhaps its most famous movie, The Outlaw Josey Wells partly being filmed here...hence 'Paria Movie Set.' Years later the movie set was flooded and rebuilt, however, the buildings were lost to a mysterious fire in 2006. A few structures of the early Mormon settlement that are across the river (to the right of Tammy) and a fenced off cemetery on this side are all that remains.
The turnoff for this site lies approximately 33 miles from Kanab, Utah. It's a dirt/gravel road to the site, that ends with a parking area, picnic table and outdoor restroom. We spent a few hours exploring, rockhounding in the river and photographing the colorful hills all around us."
