Historic mural, lost and found and lost again
2023-11-07 - Green Co., KY - Photo by Larry J. Smith, Central Kentucky Historian. This vintage 1940's Double Cola advertisement on the James Skaggs Grocery at Summersville, Kentucky, had been hidden away by construction for nearly 80 years. It was found again over the weekend as workers demolished the neighboring buildings to make way for road construction on Highway 61.
This historic store building is being razed as well, because the Kentucky Department of Transportation says it's sitting on the public right of away.
The Double Cola sign will become just a snapshot in time--after being covered up for nearly 80 years, it will soon be gone forever.

Sunset over Hwy 61 outside of Burkesville, KY
2023-11-06 - Cumberland County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Looking for fall leaf colors, I found the best color in the sky over Hwy 61 just north of Burkesville. In the upper center of the picture, there's a contrail or cloud design that looks like an open parenthesis - perhaps if I'd kept watching there'd have been a message following and then a close parenthesis. - LW
