Christmas in Columbia: Connor and Allie

2012-12-02 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Every person Connor Anderson meets is a new friend. Everywhere the nine year old goes, he wins hearts. He has become, as much as any earthly person, the symbol of this Christmas period in Adair County. Allie, Bernie Bricker's nine year old Huskie, was a star, too. Everyone wanted their picture taken with the beautiful dog with the impeccable manners. But there was a special, precious moment when Connor and Allie met. "I like her," Connor said. The words did not have to be so much said, as seen. Nor do words have to be added that the new bond was sincerely reciprocated. Allie said that in her eyes. Animals seems to be able to naturally meter souls better than angels ever could. Taken at Christmas in Columbia, December 1, 2012.

Christmas in Columbia 2012: Parade Marshal Allan Parnell

2012-12-02 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener.
Allan Mercer Parnell, Parade Marshal, and his wife Bunny Parnell
were in the lead vehicle after the Columbia Police Department Police car in the 2012 Christmas Parade. The Parnells now live in Louisville, KY, but make frequent trips back to his native Adair County. He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Lindsey Wilson College. Mr. Parnell grew up in Columbia, had a successful career with General Electric at Appliance Park, and founded the highly successful "Mr. P" trucking company, headquartered in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He still fondly remembers his Adair County roots before all that, and makes regular pilgrimages back to Sparksville, and the site of his early public education, at Rowetown School. (PS - He may have brought the luck of the Irish with him, as he was able to celebrate a Lindsey Triumph, as the Lindsey Wilson Women's Soccer Team won the women's third National Title, and will be bringing a 12th National Soccer title back to hang in Biggers Sports Center.)
