Dennis Loy: We've got their backs covered, they have ours

2012-12-08 - South Columbia Avenue, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Larry Smith, FM 99.9 .
Dennis Loy, in a rare sad mood revealing photo. "This time we get to reciprocate. Next time, they'll do the same for us. We've got their backs covered this time. They will be in Adair County anytime we have to have their services," he said. It was an acknowledgement of a decades old mutual response between the Adair and Campbellsville Fire Department, back to the time Campbellsville shifted the course in the tragic Adair Hotel Fire in the 1970s, when without a call, the CFD showed up on the Square in Columbia. Mr. Loy said. "There's no county line here. There won't be any bill. There's never one when Campbellsville aids us. "This is a brotherhood," he said. And I'll never forget my pride when I heard the relief in a voice from the first to spot them the CFD's arrival. "Columbia's here!" he shouted.

Larry Smith, Operations Manager Larry Smith is on the scene and took this photo earlier this morning after a fire which seems to have started in a storage room at Taylor County Fire spread to this area at the main entrance of the building. Firefighters from Taylor, Adair, and Green County Fire Departments have been able to contain the fire to this one building, but a wide area of the community is feeling the smoke, air quality, and - in some cases - power outages. -Larry Smith on the scene, FM 99.9 radio, Campbellsville, KY

Scenic Metcalfe Co., KY: The Courthouse at Christmas time

2012-12-08 - Edmonton, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
And this isn't even the prettiest side
The restored historic Metcalfe County Courthouse is situated in the middle of a parklike campus in the center of Downtown Edmonton. The photo is from the back side, with a peek on the right toward the new Metcalfe Judicial Center, on the one time site of Polson-Van Zant Hardware. Benches on the campus are sufficient for almost every day, and broad sidewalks make cuts through, around, and across safe and easy. Because of strategic stops at all but one entrances to the Square, speed is rarely an issue for pedestrians anywhere. We're hoping to have a photo from the other side - the prettier one with the entrance to the meeting room and the back lit bell, later this season, hoping that someone will send one soon. - EW

Kentucky Color: Holly in the Wild

2012-12-08 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge.
We are all familiar with American Holly
accenting and enhancing our Urban Landscapes. However most don't realize that Holly is a native Adair County tree and like this one in the wilds between Fairplay and Powell's Creek is thriving in the Great Wooded South. - Billy Joe Fudge
