When students scored above 70 percentile in Adair County
2012-12-12 - Photo CM photo. A Favorite Old Newspaper: Garrison Keillor was right, all the Adair County kids are above average. Most people in Columbia - most educators in this county - probably do not remember when these K-12 kids all scored above the 70 percentile. But State Commissioner of Education Terry Holliday, might know how this happened. Came across the April 1985 copy of an Adair County newspaper and thought this might be interesting as our local schools Race to the Top, as the school system basks in its latest accomplishments. It's a a puzzle, a riddle wrapped in a conundrum, I tell you. Maybe a reader - a top sleuth like Jim, Phil Hanna, Dr. Lenaghan, the vegete Billy Joe Fudge might offer us a clue, before someone asks Dr. Holliday how this happened. Another hint, folks with with a variation on his name probably, and maybe the Bridgewaters, may have played a role in it. Mary's New Recipe Library - a Kindle Fire 7-inch HD
2012-12-12 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. The New Kindle Fire HD will likely be propped on a lot of kitchen counters soon, as an extremely handy library for all the recipes any person could possibly need. Mary Keltner brought this photo of one of her favorite treats, Pignoli Cookies. (These look almost as good as those made by Dottie Julian, the master baker of the Pine Nut topped goodies.) This Kindle Fire HD is the handier 7", hold in one hand model, the one favored by readers. We haven't checked yet, but the latest Kindles are usually at Columbia Super Walmart, as well as from the manufacturer, Amazon.com. It's on our list for a Christmas gift, being compared to one of the iPADs, Google's Nexus 7, or a Google Chromebook. Reader tips would be appreciated.
