Can we afford that, Robert?

2013-01-10 - City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
"Can we afford that, Robert?" may be the next shibboleth for Columbians globally. It was heard enough, from Councillor Dr. Ronald P. Rogers, to popularize it with the public. The Monday, January 7, 2013, session of Columbia City Council was spirited. There first lively exchanges between Mr. Flowers and new Councillor Dr. Ron P. Rogers, in what appeared to be the start of Columbia's version of the Lincoln-Douglas debates. Dr. Rogers took more populist positions from the left banc; Mr. Flowers hewed a more conservative, budget hawk stance from the right banc. Fortunately for the media, they both occupy the seats nearest the camera lens, where the drama of the Rogers-Flowers exhanges can be dramatically documented by the media. Monday night's session was the best theatre in town. Clicking Readmore accesses the Tuesday, account of Council proceedings. -EW
