The Whitehurst Diaries: Intriguing barn, Old Grey Homestead
2013-01-13 - Old Gradyville Road, Gradyville, KY - Photo by Sharon Whitehurst. I have been intrigued with this old barn, visible from the high point of our corn ground [the north field] and suspected that lurking behind it would be the remains of a house and outbuildings. - SHARON WHITEHURST

The Whitehurst Diaries: The house, Old Grey Homestead
2013-01-13 - Old Gradyville Road, Gradyville, KY - Photo by Sharon Whitehurst. I look at these old places like this one as go past and try to imagine smoke from a supper fire feathering out of the shattered chimneys, windows gleaming and decked with crisp curtains. I wonder about the families who lived there, their names and their stories. - SHARON WHITEHURST

As 1st Birthday nears, Hailey's getting hang of soccer
2013-01-13 - Shelbyville, KY - Photo by Pen. Hailey's first birthday is still a few days off, but she's already mastering the game of soccer, coached by older brother Graham. At right, she savors the athlete's reward for a great day of training. That birthday is January 25. She's the granddaughter of Ed and Linda Waggener of Columbia, and great granddaughter of Geniece Marcum of Columbia and Edmonton. - Granddad

Scenic Green Co., KY: The Woodson Lewis Building
2013-01-13 - Greensburg, KY - Photo by Larry Smith, The Big Dawg, 99.9 FM. Larry Smith took this photo of his favorite birthplace, Greensburg, Green County, KY. He says the building has always figured in a big way in his life, a part of the scenery while he was getting a dual education: High School at Green County High during the morning and early afternoons, then OJT learning for his passion, broadcasting, at WGRK on top of Buckner Hill. It was a walking world. The whole town was a campus. In the afternoons it was down the hill across the footbridge and across the Square, with a fueling station stop off at Model Drugs before the climb to the studio and transmitter on top of the world. There was even a lot of etiquette taught and discipline was maintained by clerks and store owners downtown. To a large degree, maybe more than anywhere else, Greensburg is still that way. - CM.
