The building which held the bell
2013-01-23 - Columbia, KY - Photo from Ann Curtis. Ann Curtis sent this photo of an offering on e-Bay, a collectible plate with a drawing of the old Columbia Graded and High School, where the bell was rung for so many years by one of Columbia's all-time most honored citizens. Clicking Readmore accesses Ann Curtis story about the unusual tribute to Joe Taylor, Sr, at his death. A related story, Perhaps a note can be added for the beloved bell-ringer, by Laverne Woody Jankowski, suggests the plaque with the old bell as an art piece at the new Adair County Primary Center might include a reference to Mr. Taylor.

Scenic Taylor Co., KY: Strip Mall in Maple community
2013-01-23 - Maple, Taylor Co., KY - Photo by Kenny Browning, the Feedman. Strip Mall. Located in Maple, Kentucky beside Hwy 1511. This must have been the prototype for today's strip malls. It's art
2013-01-23 - Taylor Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. A carefully tended bit of street art remains on Taylor Street in Columbia, KY, across the road from the Jackman High School memorial. It's in a neatly maintained neighborhood. It's precious. And it's obvious that someone knows what to leave alone, what needs a human hand to give it the appearance of chance, but, in reality, is carefully landscaped. One wonders what the story of the old pickup is? Who owned it. How it came to rest and rust so well. We found it when revisiting the Jackman High site with Mrs. Marcum, who remembered that her friend, Lovie Kinnaird from Edmonton, KY, had gone to school there. Linda had wanted to get a different view of another fascinating old truck she often sees from the Columbia Post Office and wanted to photograph, but thought this one might be the ultimate of its genre. - EW

32 is only inscription on exterior of bell
2013-01-22 - 350 Gen. John Adair Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. ColumbiaMagazine.com's story about the bell from the old Columbia Graded & High School has been one of the most commented on pieces of the past week, but most of the information received has been about the man associated with the bell, the beloved custodian of the school, Joe Taylor, Sr. There is little to go on, at present about the origins of the bell: What foundry cast it, when it was installed above the balcony area of the school auditorium. And, to add to the mystery, the only inscription on the exterior is the number 32, apparently the height in inches of the massive bell. Adair County School District Maintenance Director says the giant nuts at the top of the photo are hand made. Any information will be appreciated. - EW
