007 Pinball at Louisville Arcade Expo

2013-03-08 - 9700 Bluegrass Parkway, Louisville, KY 40299 - Photo by Pen. The Ramada Plaza just off Hurstbourne Lane is hosting the Louisville Arcade Expo this weekend. Packed into the Conference center are dozens of old arcade games, plus nearly a hundred pinball machines, all set on free play. - Pen. Just wondering? Does anyone still have any of the pinball machines which used give hours of entertainment in misspent youth (and Mayoral, paperboy, businessman, and professional) time? The picture brought to mind days of the line up of machines in the G&M Grill, Bob's Pool Hall, House of Billiards, and E.C. Waggener's Aetna Station at the foot of Town Hill. And of course, the man behind the machines, Tim (?) of Russell Springs, KY, who owned the games. Surely there is a warehouse full of them around here somewhere. - CM

Birds of Kentucky: Breakfast with Titmouse and Carolina Wren

2013-03-08 - Fortune Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. Mom, Geniece Marcum, and I are really enjoying the birds which join us for breakfast. She knows many of the species, but neither of us could identify these cuties, but Lor Bragg says the one on the left is a titmouse, the brown bird is a Carolina Wren. - Linda

Birds of Kentucky: Meet the Alpha Bird - Esquirel II

2013-03-08 - Fortune Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener.
Peg Schaeffer's dog which thinks it's a cat isn't the only animal that thinks it's something it isn't. Esquirel II, so named after Esquirel I, a character from a children's book, must think he is the Alpha Bird at our little bird breakfast feeder. He is bigger than the birds and takes up most of the little feeder platform, but Esquirel II is not alpha all the time. A big Blue Jay soaring in can have him dashing away in a flash. - Linda
