Birds of KY: Doves

2013-03-16 - 314 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by George Rice. Thought I heard a worm - Caught this little fellow almost asleep on a guard rail back of Burton Ace Hardware. After taking his sleepy picture I was admiring him/her when suddenly the little fellow turned and peered over the side and then hopped off to enjoy a gourmet of fresh worm. Amazing how birds know just where and how to find the food of their choice. - George Rice, Burton Ace Hardware 314 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY

Creekbank marker? Does it designate anything

2013-03-16 - Russell Creek off East KY 80, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener. There's marker about 25 feet above Russell Creek
on a cliff off East KY 80 which faces the stream. Nothing is legible now. The surface is completely covered in race. One would wonder whether there are several of them along the stream and if they were once used to to mark a high flood mark, or what. It's on a well explored section of the stream between the Russell Creek Bridges on East KY 80 and the one on Greenhills Road. If you know - we at CM haven't a clue - please share using the comments button with the photo. Just curious. Gary Rose writes that it may just be a teeter-totter seat. - EW

Backroads people hauler

2013-03-16 - Shelby County, KY - Photo by Pen. Hailey was a bit tentative about the ride in the All Terrain Wagon, the Super People Hauler driven by her cousin, but Tillie, a bit older and more sophisticated enjoyed the view from the back of the bus and the attention narrative of the driver on Shelby County's version of the Gray Line Tour. It was of a spring like day, this past week. - Granddad, Ed Waggener

CAUD water board reviews 2012 Audit report

2013-03-16 - Photo by Ed Waggener. As Wise, Buckman and Sprowles CPA Shirley Buckner reviewed the 2012 Audit of the Columbia/Adair Utilities District (CAUD), Clockwise from left, Chair Robert Flowers, Commissioner Barry Stotts, Commissioner Rudy Higginbotham, Office Manager Jennifer Carter, General Manager Lenny Stone, and Commissioner David Jones listened. Commissioner Tim Baker was present but not shown in photo. The audit showed an exceptionally strong asset to debt ratio and a good cash balance, which may be even better when the Adair County Water Treatment plant's merger with CAUD is approved by the Public Service Commission and the huge asset is added to the balance sheet - along with a relatively low debt, itself financed by a long term 1% loan. The photo is from the Thursday, March 14, 2013, regular meeting of the CAUD Commissioners.
