Epicurean Kentuckian: Tilapia Veracruz

2013-04-06 - Photo by Antonio Aquino.
The latest fish dish
in town is a plate at Pablo's Mexican Grill: Tilapia Vercruz. It starts with fresh Tilapia, a mild fish nearly everyone likes, and which draws much of its flavor from seasonings and sauces. At Pablo's, the seasonings are house secrets - the spicy sauce comes in their own roasted tomatoes with shrimp and scallops. Served with house vegetables and a generous ice cream scoop of rice.

The Glens Fork Creek Bridge ceremony: Squire Sammy Baker

2013-04-05 - Photo by Ed Waggener. Nobody negotiated harder than Third District Magistrate Sammy Baker for the bridge widening project over Glens Fork Creek in the Zion Community. He recalled close calls on the narrow bridge which never resulted in deaths or injuries, but did mean a lot of mirrors were damaged in the near misses. At right is Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton, who also spoke at the Tuesday, April 2, 2013 ceremony. The view is from the bridge, looking north toward Columbia. Some at the event thought the bridge should be named for Mr. Baker.

GRAS Executive Cats: Shetney and Sylvester

2013-04-04 - GRAS, 455 Jim Blair Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo CM staff photo. The Green River Animal Shelter has 14 cats available for adoption today, Shetney, left and Sylvester not included. They are part of the Executive Staff, occcasionally handling Customer Service, as they were this week when the photo was taken. Sandy Ford, the Director says that some days, Shetney, who is bipolar bordering on a bit evil, is vexing. He makes sudden seven o'clock crazies moves at any time of the day. When he appears calm, as above, she knows, even without looking into his eyes the way he is above, that he's plotting his next move. In this case, it was to knock some dead AA camera batters off the desk and use them for pucks in a solo cat hockey contest. Sylvester, on the other hand, seems to be computer literate, is all business, a pillar of the shelter and is climbing the corporate ladder steadily, one rung at a time. Of the other cats - the fourteen available for adoption - you can see them yourself at Green River Animal Shelter, 455 Jim Blair Drive (try also Appleby Drive on GPS), Columbia, KY. Hours: Tues-Sat. 8am-5pmCT/9am-6pmET. Closed Sunday and Monday. Phone: 270-385-9655. email: gras@windstream.net
