Crime Scene: Did anyone see the perps?

2013-04-07 - 210 Lindsey Wilson Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Reward for information leading to identification of person or persons who committed one of the most dastardly acts ever in Adair County in this very stairwell on Lindsey Wilson campus only 55 years ago. Bullies put a BMW Isetta German automobile (the Erthel car, only this one was gray, North Carolina blue, and chrome, mostly) down this stairwell while the owner was in class in Miss Goodhue's green science building. It was an awful thing to do to an ambitious Courier-Journal delivery man.

Writing a CM Kids Tech review of Chromebook on Chromebook

2013-04-07 - Fortune Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Granddad. Graham composed the accompanying review on a Samsung Chromebook. This one is a barebones Wi-Fi model, about half the cost of the Chromebooks for Casey Kids. Graham says he likes it better than an iPad. He especially like the ease of typing and it's mobility. He uses several locations for the review: a daybed, a dining room table, and the back porch. He's used one frequently in his dad's coffee shop in Shelbyville. He thinks it's a neat idea to get 30 of them for the Casey kids. - Granddad

Spring 2013: Henbit in a crannied freestone masonry wall

2013-04-07 - Fortune Street Columbia, KY - Photo By Pen. Henbit is the bane of lawn homogenists. We watch for each spring and rather like its effect, especially on the stunning lawn we've noticed in the 800 block of Burkesville Street, near the Foster Graves and Bill Wheat's 2nd Christian Church. According to Wikipedia, the plant is edible, but we'll want many second opinions before eating any. This henbit (Lamium amplexicaule) was a bit special. It was poetically pretty, and nice to see from a wall which is the maternity ward for garter snakes. Every spring they come to Town Creek banks by the hundreds. We're looking into catching them, putting them in a barrel, and paying off the mortgage with $2 a pet snake sales. Might go well at the Farmer's Market on the Square. Just need to know where to get a license. - ED
