A Greener, Safer Adair County Schools Campus - Golf Cart in use

2013-04-10 - Indian Drive at Gen. John Adair Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Currently the only electric vehicle in the Adair County School District fleet, used by the Maintenance Department, above with Ricky Bault, Supervisor of Maintenance driving, heads for home port, the "350 Building," or Maintenance Building, at 350 Gen. John Adair Drive. In the not too distant future, even some commuters from nearby may be able to access the campus as well. The big numbers on the building were made students of Barney Taylor at the Lake Cumberland Area Technology Center and are being added as funds are available. In the future, a street sign for this intersection will be added, and long range plans call for street level signage, with the street number again most prominently display in the graphics and visible to traffic in both directions will be added. "We'll be planning that starting first with 911 Mapping and Addressing, first responders, and our maintenance department, professional drivers, and media people first," Superintendent Allen Reed said, "getting the function and safety concerns right first, then we'll work with graphic artists and landscape architects to make the signage aesthetically pleasing." The next numbers to be installed, Ricky Bault said, will be at the football field.

Principal Patty Jones gets first look at new school

2013-04-10 - Adair County Primary Center, 158 Col. Wm Casey Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener. With the start of school, 2013-14, in the new Adair County Primary Center fewer than 100 days away, Principal Patty Jones got a first look inside the building yesterday, Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Even so, planning is going so well that she knew exactly where every teacher, every classroom and office would be. The new building is now on schedule and, barring unforeseen circumstances, will be ready in time for orderly, militarily precise move in days immediately before the first busload of students arrive. In the background, one of 700 sq. ft. classrooms, with a window looking out over gorgeous Adair County farmland.
