Epicurean Kentuckian: Sandwich chefs with UK MSM degrees

2013-04-13 - 6104 Elkhorn Road, Knifley, KY - Photo CM staff photo. Scaling the peak of academe both Barbara Montoya, left and Keysha Tucker, in the safety yellow have earned MSM - Masters of Sandwich Making - degrees from the University of Knifley. They are fast and they are good at the craft, building a double order of cheddar and jack cheese on the real thing - white bread - slathered on all inside slices with Miracle Whip and deluxed with fresh crisp iceberg lettuce, tomato, onion, and hot banana peppers. With a bottle of icy cold milk, a bottle of water, and a six oz. Coke in a glass bottle (the only way David Heskamp drank it), was a feast - for about 10 bucks. They're at Baker's Grocery, 6104 Elkhorn Road, Knifley, KY

Please include mystery author's name within your proposed new caption. - CM

What growers do to get the tomatoes to you!

2013-04-13 - 1535 Bull Run Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Barbara Armitage.
Kentucky farmers and growers will do what ever it takes to get that first vine ripe tomato to you this season. There was a light frost last night here on the hill at Tucker's Station Farms but our little tomatoes were snug and warm. They were planted earlier this month inside a high tunnel. Even though spring was late coming this year the vendors at the Farmer's Market on the Square are planning on having vine ripe tomatoes at the market not long after the 1st of June. We're on the way to everywhere - stop by and visit with us soon: The first Farmer's Market on the Square will be 8am-12pm noon CT, Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the Adair Annex Parking Lot, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY. - BARBARA ARMITAGE
