Wildflowers of KY: Violets and Yellow Primrose

2013-04-14 - Old KY 551, Knifley, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. Beyond the violets we're not too sure of the identifications of the other flowers in this photo; the big yellow blooms appear to be yellow primrose and there may be a few trillium, maybe someone better versed in the subject will offer help. The flowers are pictured from Saturday, April 13, 2013, on the cliff side of Old KY 551, the one time trail to Knifley, or Arnold's Landing Road, a wild botanical garden at this time of the year. There is also some Purple Deadnettle - a a plant of the mint family and a relative of Henbit, with characteristic square stems of the mint family, and, according to some sources, edible. - EW

Anyone who's ever attended Barnett's Creek United Methodist Church has a song in their mind hearing it's name or seeing the jewel of a church campus. It's symbolic of the sound of Christian Music; with a rich history of service to the people of the Pellyton area since its founding as an Evangelical United Brethren congregation in the mid 1900s and continues today.
