2013-04-15 - Sugarfoot Farm Rescue, 860 Sparksville Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Peg Schaeffer. Dogs at Sugarfoot Farm Rescue love the equine members of the pack. Eeyore is a favorite. Happiest times for the dogs is when they get to go on a trail ride through the rural landscape. Poor Eeyore, he doesn't get to make those.

Churches of Adair Co., KY: First Nazarene, Spring, 2013

2013-04-14 - 1200 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Driving south on KY 55, it appears as though the safety green tree was placed as a backdrop for the spire on the Columbia, KY, First Church of the Nazarene. The foreground, with the beautiful Eastern Red Cedar, accents the scene, though there may be just two too many, five - two extra for a Trinity.

Herping: Out of hibernation - Black Rat Snake

2013-04-14 - Southeast Adair Co., KY - Photo by Heather Evans.
From the pro-snake constituent
, my black rat snake is out of hibernation. I don't know if it is sunning or just hanging out, but my kids spotted the snake first. I see it every year, so am assuming it is the same snake. S/he is 2 1/2-3 feet long. - Heather Evans CM NOTE: Snakes are people, too, with feelings - Surely this beautiful animal has a name, and we want to post it. Snakes-rights folks can get downright snippy about this matter. - EW

2013-04-14 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
A look from an as yet unnamed access on the south end of the Adair County Veterans Memorial Highway/KY 55 looking south over the Arnold farm, across Petty's Fork to the Tommy and Marsha Griders home with the band of Bradford Pear trees now in bloom. On the right is the bridge on Burkesville Road to Grider Hill Pass toward Greater Bliss. On the left, old KY 61 through the drive in curves.

Turkey Season 2013: Husband called turkey; wife shot it

2013-04-14 - Buffalo Hills, Weed-Sparksville Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Jim Lieb.
Spring Turkey season opened
with a bang at Buffalo Hills Ranch with Candy Vanderpool bagging this 23 pound gobbler within the first 10 minutes of her first ever hunt. Kudos to the excellent turkey calling of husband Bradley Vanderpool, who was even more excited than Candy. - Jim Lieb

Scenic Kentucky: Walking to Indiana on the Big Four

2013-04-14 - Louisville, KY - Photo by Pen. Foot and bicycle traffic has been consistently heavy on the Big Four Bridge since it re-opened in February. According to Wikipedia, "The Big Four Bridge is a six-span former railroad truss bridge that crosses the Ohio River, connecting Louisville, Kentucky, and Jeffersonville, Indiana, United States. It was completed in 1895, and updated in 1929. It has its largest span at 547 feet (167 m), for 2,525 feet (770 m) in total. It gets its name from the defunct Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railway, which was nicknamed the Big Four Railroad... On February 7, 2013, the Louisville ramp was opened for pedestrian and bicycle traffic. The Jeffersonville ramp is scheduled to be opened by mid-year 2013."
