Dog Warden Jimmy Harmon with Deputy Dog, Baby

2013-04-15 - GRAS, 455 Jim Blair Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
When it comes to rounding up strays, Deputy Dog Baby, a little eight pound Shih-Tzu, is the best, worth her weight in premium dog food. She really is one of the smartest dogs in Adair County, if not the smartest. Ranking right up there with Jack Russell Stephens, the Democrat dog, Richie Janes Border Collie, and Tommy Grider's German Shepherd with all the advanced degrees. Warden Harmon and Deputy Baby were among the first to arrive at the Green River Animal Shelter this morning, Monday, April 15, 2013.

A Worthwhile Upgrade

2013-04-15 - Photo by Pen. When the boys started playing the occasional game of chess, they found that our wooden travel set--an inexpensive souvenir from their uncle's trips--wasn't really comfortable for seriously learning the game. The slightest bump sent the light pieces scattering. Plastic and cardboard chess sets are available for $8 and less at discount stores, but they have similar problems. As with so many consumer goods these days, spending a little more can make the difference between "looks like it would work" and "is genuinely enjoyable to play." Pictured is the Executive Tournament Chess Kit available from sellers on Amazon for around $30. It includes a roll-up vinyl playing mat and large, triple-weighted, traditional Staunton pieces, plus a zip-up carrying case for trips to the park.
