What Stotts Construction company replaced on Mack Street
2013-06-14 - 109 Grant Lane, Columbia, KY . These 3/4" pipes have been replaced by 6 inch lines on Mack Street by Stotts Construction Company of Columbia, the firm hired by the bonding company to finish a Phase 14/Downtown Project, when Southern Backhoe abandoned the work. Columbia/Adair Utilities District (CAUD) General Manager Lenny Stone said that the old line was supposed to supply water to six families in the Hudson Addition. "I don't see how one person could have gotten enough water to take a shower," he said. Now there will be plenty of water, with adequate pressure to take care of an even larger neighborhood. The Downtown Project is one of several essential to rebuilding the City of Columbia's utility infrastructure, an undertaking promised by CAUD before the merger of the city and county systems. That promise is being fulfilled. It now appears that a stalled sewer system project is close to being put back on track, though at the cost of three months time in the race to remedy decades of neglect in the old city system. The pipes were on display at the Thursday, June 13, 2013, regular meeting of the CAUD Board of Directors.

Larry Smith Puzzler: Know where this is?
2013-06-14 - ?????? - Photo by Larry Smith. People who have lived in South Central Kentucky for nigh 75 years have never heard of this road. It points the way to a fantastic geological formation from which the road's name came. Larry Smith, Operations Manager for Shoreline Communications, the parent company of The WAVE, 92.7 FM, phone 270-384-3979, knows the story in depth. If you have information on where the sign is located, and what it's about, call him or send the information to ColumbiaMagazine.com. Two clues: 1) It is within 20 miles of the center of Kentucky - by one definition; and 2) It is within the center of the universe: Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor Counties. - CM

Lecturer at CAUD Wastewater Treatment Plant
2013-06-14 - Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Maybe also the coolest Sewer Plant operator in the world, definitely in Kentucky, Bo Murphy, gave a brief lecture to members of the CAUD Utility Board who visited the plant. Murphy outlined the need for a new sludge press. The Sludge Plant will be part of CAUD's Phase 16 (EDA Sewer) project, for which funds/and grants are already approved. In the background of the photo is a hint of a slide below the Columbia Cemetery which will be repaired along with a project to protect the plant from flood damage, which lacks only a public hearing before the project proceeds. The board voted at it's meeting last night, June 13, 2013, to hold the public hearing at the Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, at 5pmCT, on Thursday, August 8, 2013, prior to its regular 6pmCT meeting that same day at the CAUD office, 109 Grant Lane, Columbia, KY.

Scenic Green Co., KY: Greensburg at dusk
2013-06-14 - 100 Block, S Court Street, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Larry Smith. My Hometown, Greensburg, KY at dusk. With it's relatively new but perfectly match landscaping and its history - Woodson Lewis, at 185 years old (as a business; the company moved to this location in 1900) is older than many counties in the area- is a Green County icon. Hope everyone appreciates this scene as much as I do. - Larry Smith, Green County native, Operations Manager, Shoreline Communications
