Wildlife of KY: Rabbit, resting. Do bunnies get 6 o'clock crazies

2013-06-27 - Along Town Creek, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Rabbit, our outdoor pet seemed a docile creature here, resting on a earlier day, hidden in plain view by his thicket and his bale of hay. But last night at dinner, he and a playmate were in the drive. The playmate appeared lifeless, then to be taking a dust bath, if rabbits do such things. In a moment though, the two engaged in cat-like six o'clock crazies: Charging each other without impact, running and scampering. At one point it seemed one jumped over the other; and both seemed to be able to turn 180 degrees in mid leap. Quite a show. During that time squirrels freneticker than usual, and birds were on high alert. Thought at first the New Madrid fault might be having a green apple bellyache and an earthquake was imminent. But all the dishes stayed on the shelve and churchbells didn't ring. Just wondering if it is normal wild rabbiting, or an aberration. Good show, though. Better than Tv or the internet. - EW
