Happy Tails: Katie and Bella already best friends
2013-07-19 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Tina Cook. Here's a picture of "Bella" who was adopted by Katie Boyd as a birthday present. Her mother Tina Cook called me the other day to say she didn't know you could fall in love with a dog so fast. Larry Smith had called me about a little dog that lived across from the radio station and they were feeding her. He was worried that she would be hit by a car. The owner agreed to let us take her. She has been spayed, vaccinated and is now in a loving home. This quote is from Katie's mom, Tina Cook: "Katie and Bella already best friends! We love her. Thank you so much for allowing us to give her a forever loving home!" - Peg Schaeffer

Terry Loy: Children will be taught starting Aug. 14, 2013
2013-07-19 - 1204 Greensburg Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Terry Loy, on-site construction manager for Branscum Construction, outlined a coordinated turnover of the new Adair County Primary Center to the Adair County School Board with just one unequivocal commitment: Instruction can begin August 14, 2013. Loy, for whom the Adair County Primary Center is the last job in his career, has become something of a folk hero for the job, completing the work on the $12 million project in just days over one year. Branscum mobilized for the project, on July 9, 2012, facing a rocky site and overcoming a series of weather related slowdowns. Still, Loy told the Thursday, July 18, 2013 board meeting, the ACPC will open for classes on its appointed date. Loy said that his projections are that a few days will pass before the gym and cafeteria are ready, everything else will be. - EW

Epicurean Kentuckian: Simple Summer farmers markets Supper
2013-07-19 - Epicurean Peasant Kitchen . Most of the ingredients can come from farmers markets, though the broccoli is brought on. The bouquet, a luxury, brought on item in winter, can be bought from local farmers. They don't grow better Yukon Gold Potatoes in the Yukon's than Adair County's potatoes now. Kennebec's and other Arsh Potatoes are readily available. Green beans come in almost designer varieties. And Tomatoes - we've already got the great flavor of locally grown, what we're all waing for are steak tomatoes - Big Boys - which cover and lap over your plate, and are a meal in themselves with just a dab of salad dressing over cottage cheese over tomato - or, for purist, just a slight sprinkling of salt. The only thing better on this earth is a July Big Boy Tomato Sandwich on Mayo slathered lightbread, a summer sandwich that can't be beat. - CM
