Drove 225 miles for wild blackberries

2013-07-20 - Adair Annex, 424 Public Square - Photo by Ed Waggener. Over two hours before the Farmers Market on the Square opened this morning, Frances (Hunter) England (ACHS 1958) and husband Billy England (ACHS 1957) were watching the stalls being set up, hunting for Adair County Wild Blackberries. The Englands now live just outside Anderson, Indiana, with their family members nearby - enough so that Frances put a sign up in the yard, "The Village," to let the world know that the England family compound is a town in itself. While home is now Indiana, they still think of building a cabin on their acreage near Breeding. Billy England noticed the Red Brick Studio, where, when it was the Firestone Store, he bought his first bicycle; and Reed Bros., where, when it was Ed & Ed's Kentucky Auto Store, he worked for Ed Williams while Sonny Williams was in the service. Frances was wondering why her class isn't planning a reunion this year. (PS - Wild Blackberries are for sale at the Tucker's Station stall. - CM)
