Why CM uses time zones in Events

2013-08-06 - 17165 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Folks in The Jackson Purchase of Texarkana may never have to think about what time zone they are in, but here in the border counties of Kentucky, we do. That's by almost all times listed in Events carry CT/ET times so minds can be put to much better use than forever mentally calculating what time zone applies; whether Taylor County is in the Eastern time zone, as it is, or wondering why, Taylor County being west of Clinton in the Central Time zone, it is where it is. In the Village of Pellyton they use "Fast Time" and "Slow Time" to designate. There, with the the Eastern Time zone just minutes away on northeast bound roads, time is a big concern. Though traveling southwest, they go 1,444 miles to El Paso and still be in the Central Time zone.

Columbia City Council, August 5, 2013 regular session

2013-08-06 - City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Studying documents during last night's City Council, Clockwise from left were Councillors Dr. Ronald P. Rogers, Charles Grimsley, and June Parson; City Clerk Sonya Biggs, Mayor Mark D. Harris, and Councillors Craig Dean, Linda Waggener and Robert Flowers. City Attorney Marshall Loy was out of town and could not attend. Biggest news came from Dr. Ronald P. Rogers, who announced the possibility of joint funding for much needed sidewalks from Lindsey Wilson to the Jamestown Street and Russell Road areas. Lindsey Wilson would fund half the cost, he said. The issue of improvements in pedestrian safety have been a passion for Dr. Rogers and Linda Waggener. Dr. Rogers' counterpoint, Robert Flowers reminded the council of its most pressing issue, the need to address the imbalance in the city budget, but did not indicate whether the need is revenue enhancement in the form of a payroll tax or doing the cost cutting measures the school board and hospital district has implemented. Flowers also commended the city police for intensely patrolling the city, driving 12,000 miles last month. A property maintenance board was named; Mayor Harris acknowledged the need for the City Code Enforcement to be more in the form of City Code Assistance. And the council approved a change in City Zoning on Fairground Creek bordering Russell Creek, owned by Nelson McQuaide, changing 15 acres from R-3 residential to C-2 commercial. Lucky, Star of Stage and Screen, is Missing

2013-08-05 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Robert Osborne. Robert writes, "Lucky disappeared almost two months ago. I can't help but to believe that someone has him because he is a very kind dog and would always come home no matter what. Lucky played Rin Tin Tin in my music video "Hey Lone Ranger". He hangs out with Big White Dog and sometimes the two would go to the golf course and and hang out with people there. I hope someone knows where he is and does the right thing by bringing him back home again." If you have information about Lucky's whereabouts, email Robert directly at boco52@windstream.net.
