2013-08-15 - ACPC, 158 Col. Casey Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Superintendent Alan W. Reed left and Pyles Recycling CEO Danny Pyles CEO by one of four recycling mobile cages which Pyles Recycling has placed on the campus at no charge, in exchange for the right to pick up recyclables from the campus. The cages replace rented dumpsters. In addition, the recycler will supply the campus with mulch for the extensive landscaping now underway. Each of the cages has the Adair County logo and motto, "Learning for a Lifetime," emblazoned on the forward end of the units.

Pyles Recycling: expanding firm is helping the environment

2013-08-15 - 221 Corporate Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Out of sight and seldom seen scene. Pyles Recycling is a busy and expanding environmental enterprise. Danny & Sandy Pyles believe that this year will see dramatic increases in their recycling business. This is a part of the "factory" area, where scrap wood is turned into bio-mass fuel. The semi being loaded is headed to Cox Interiors in Campbellsville, which will use the fuel to generate electricity for the plant. Other uses for the salvaged wood includes mulch for landscaping. The company is proving that being green is also a very good business model. That's what Danny Pyles is preaching as the company expands.

Remembering Jimmy Reliford: Home to Antioch

2013-08-15 - 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Jimmy Reliford's Excalibur led the procession from Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home Home to Antioch. Inside, when this photo was taken before the funeral, the crowd had been building to capacity almost one hour before the start of the service. By the time it began, every available space had been filled. Yesterday afternoon, the community was still assessing the impact this remarkable man has had on the community, and what lies ahead without him. Burial took place in Antioch Cemetery, within yards of Jimmy Reliford's business headquarters, near Sparksville, KY.

The Fairground Street project II: Almost done Aug. 14, 2013

2013-08-15 - Fairground Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Soon, smooth sailing out Fairground Street to the ribbon of road in the center above, Liberty Road/KY 206. Too smooth according to many residents of the area, who think drivers, already going far too fast along the stretch, will now go even faster. This was the way the looked Wednesday afternoon, August 14, 2013 looking east past the Greenhills Road - still with no stop light - over the Russell Creek Bridge toward Burton Ridge on KY 206.
