Ransdell Chapel at CU - a quiet moment at a busy place

2013-09-22 - Ransdell Chapel, 401 N Hoskins, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener.
Ransdell Chapel at Campbellsville University has had only one or two quiet moments, as this photo shows, since classes started August 27, 2013, It has quickly become the hub of welcome and spiritual growth for all who attend, perform or visit the campus from the start of a new semester and throughout the year. In another life perhaps Ed and I will be able to do what George and Marie Ransdell have done for CU, or what the Fugittes, Goodins and Holloways and a special few others have done for Lindsey Wilson College, by giving a lead gift and a challenge for an inspirational building. This is a thank-you to all of those families for their sacrificial sharing and giving. -- Linda Waggener

Gone Bananas in Taylor County, KY

2013-09-22 - Blue Hole Road, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Tommy Bailey. And who says you can't grow bananas for food in Taylor County? According to some entries found Googling, the flowers are eaten as vegetables, as in this item at Banana Flowers/Molly Watson on About.com. The Adair County Garden Club has members with a great knowledge of edible flowers. A Day Lily sample was a hit at the "Cooking with Herbs," class a few weeks ago. - CM. Scenic Subtropical Taylor Co., KY: A friend has gone bananas

2013-09-22 - Blue Hole Road, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Tommy Bailey. Blue Hole Road, One mile south of C-ville - A friend of ours seems to have gone bananas! His back yard is adorned with banana trees. All these trees you see here (and some you don't) will have to be moved inside before the freeze comes. A lot of work but his yard is one beautiful place in the summer. It's so tropical looking that you feel like you're on some South Sea island. - TOMMY BAILEY. Apples for breakfast on the first day of fall

2013-09-22 .
Adair County apples were on our breakfast table, in hot buttery cinnamon-y juice, in honor of the first day of fall 2013.Well, that's not all together true because we've been enjoying cooked apples for weeks ever since Jeff and Henrietta Scott's Sparksville orchards produced ripe fruit for the Farmer's Market. But the cooked apple dish did seem extra right this morning since today at 4:44 p.m. marks the Autumnal Equinox. The not too well done apples sprinkled with cinnamon are pictured beside a cup of hot coffee which brought out the apple taste even more. The reason the apples were not too well done is that I had too many electrical devices going at the same time, which I forgot to be careful of in my haste to celebrate the first day of fall, or breakfast, or whatever, and consequently blew the fuse. Everything stopped for a few minutes. Normally my Mom would have taken her sweet time preparing the apples to perfection without blowing any fuses, but then I'm only the weekend cook. The simmering apples were in grave danger for a few minutes but the electric appliances were revived just in time for breakfast. -- Linda Waggener
