Fresh Greens at the Farmers Market today

2013-11-09 - Adair Annex Parking Lot, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Barbara Armitage. Crisp greens and lettuces and fresh eggs are available at Darrell Bunnell's Coview Farms booth this morning at the Farmers Market on the Square, open for the last time this season from 8am-12noonCT, Saturday, November 8, 2013. Looks like everything needed - with grits and/or cornbread - for a complete dinner. If anyone has a recipe they would use on "Iron Chef" using these ingredients - and of course it's a give you're allowed to go to your smokehouse and cut off all the ham and ham fat needed for seasoning; any fool knows that - why we'd love to share it an episode of Epicurean Kentuckian. High level conference: When E.S. talks, Granddad listens

2013-11-09 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Having watched all the Netflix episodes of The I.T. Crowd - our family is now able to handle 90% of all problems by just remembering the advice which solves 90% of the problems: "Have you tried turning it off and back on again?," as Roy Trenneman and Maurice Moss advise on any problem. E.S. Waggener, "Ev," above left, thinks he should have an office in Shelbyville and another in Columbia where he can give that advice and much more - and charge for it, as he explained to his techno-challenged Granddad, above. We shouldn't have been surprised but we now have two anecdotal incidents which support the 90% solution; once when our whole site was down and rebooting at our service provider somewhere in Middle America solved the problem. And most recently, when none of our top in house tech advisors could solve the problem of a notional iPhone which wouldn't update emails. That was frustrating. I shared the puzzler with Linda, and she instinctively asked, "Have you tried turning it off and back on again?" (even though she's seem all the episodes only once or twice). When I powered down and restarted, the ancient iPhone behaved perfectly. Will let everybody know when my tech guru, Ev, hangs out his shingle. He's good, and his work is almost as reasonable as the ultimate go-to man, Gerald Holt, the H.P. expert, Rotarian, and the man who brought the epidemic of pedalling your sofa across the countryside to Adair County. Results are all that matters to Ev, so don't be surprised if he charges his $25 minimum for just asking, "Have you tried . . ." even though you ought to have known that already. - GRANDDAD, Ed Waggener

Scenic Adair County, KY: The inverted illusion forest

2013-11-08 - Gentry Mill Road, East Adair County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Friday, November 8, 2013 was such a perfectly clear day, and the waters in Tommy Helm's lake on Gentry Mill Road were so clear, the woods were almost as distinct in this impressionistic inversion as the read thing. Tommy's Country Cooking, Helm's restaurant, has views of the lake which beg to photographed. Paired photos: see also Scenic Adair County, KY: Tommy Helm's lake, right side up

Tadpole design trike has low profile

2013-11-08 - Sano Road near Gentry Mill Road, Adair County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. The low profile of the ICE Adventure bike makes the addition of the colorful pennants a requisite safety accessary. The small rear drive wheel means slightly slower speeds, Gary Rose, above said, and different muscle groups are needed than those used to power an upright. On the highway, he was able to hit speeds in excess of 20 mph - just a bit slower than the speed limit on the State Highway should be.
